The Eastern Kingbirds were originally painted as complements to the Women of Faith series. Despite its sociable nature and relatively small size, the Eastern Kingbird, or Tyrannus tyrannus, is extremely territorial and aggressive toward other birds invading their nest space. They have been known to attack predators more than twice their size, even the bald eagle, in defense of their young. Here, the Eastern Kingbird is represented as the National Bird of varying nations and territories as an emblem of pride and fierce independence.
