Fight or flight. I draw inspiration for my work from the way danger triggers survival instincts. By experimenting with charcoal, graphite, ink, and even
smoke, I have been exploring how both natural and man-made disasters can create fear, chaos, empathy and awe. Nature provides a critical distance for me, and in studying how flocking birds other animals react to conflict, I draw parallels to the human condition. In a similar way, clouds and weather patterns refocus my attention on the enormity of the world around us and serve as a metaphor for our own dueling states of chaos and grace.
